Caring for Your Oura Ring

Here are some basics on how to best care for your Oura Ring to enhance its longevity and ensure you get the most out of your experience.

Clean Your Sensors

We recommend cleaning the infrared LED sensors (the three small bumps) located on the interior of your Oura Ring approximately once a week. This can be done by wiping them down with the inside of your t-shirt or a piece of cloth, or by rinsing your ring with a small amount of mild dish soap and water. By doing so, you’ll remove any dust or dirt that may be interfering with the signal between your ring’s sensors and the arteries on the palm side of your finger.

Avoid Extended Exposure to Extreme Temperatures

Oura Ring operating temperature ranges from -10–52°C / 14–125°F. You can safely wear your ring in the shower, hot tubs, saunas, ice baths, and cryotherapy tanks. However, extended exposure to extreme temperatures (below -20°C / -4°F or above 60°C / 140°F) may lead to battery damage.

Tips for Scratch Prevention

The Oura Ring may get scratched and can itself scratch softer metal jewelry or other objects in close contact with the ring, such as phone covers made of gold, silver, or aluminum. Some ceramic phone covers with a soft coating may also get scratched.

Scratches or other damage caused by wear and tear are not covered by Oura's warranty policy. To help prevent scratches and increase the longevity of your ring:

Wear your Oura Ring on your non-dominant hand to reduce the amount of contact with various surfaces and objects you interact with on a daily basis
Avoid wearing other rings adjacent to your Oura Ring. Other rings may scratch your Oura Ring while rubbing against it
Consider removing your Oura Ring in situations that involve friction (e.g. weightlifting), or when handling objects made of metal, ceramics, or stone (such as handling pots or pans)

The Rose Gold finish is specially designed to be a living color that will develop a darker patina over time. The exact patina effect depends on the use and care of your ring.

Battery & Charging

The Optimal Battery Range

We suggest doing your best to keep your ring's battery above 30%. To get started incorporating this new habit, we recommended keeping your charger on-hand and getting into a routine of charging your ring for a little bit each day. Consider charging your ring during periods of the day when you may traditionally take a brief break from wearing it for the sake of comfort or additional scratch protection—such as washing dishes, typing at your computer, showering, cooking, etc.

Keep in mind that all rechargeable batteries are consumables and have a limited lifespan, so their capacity and performance will gradually decline with time. Maintaining this battery range on a regular basis will result in the lowest battery deterioration rate over time.

Avoid Under and Overcharging

Try to prevent your ring's battery from reaching 0%. We suggest enabling low battery level notifications to avoid this. Check out this article for guidance on how to enable these notifications.

If you plan on taking a break from wearing your ring (for more than two weeks), we recommend charging your ring above 50% and then placing your ring in Power Saving Mode before storing it.

Avoid leaving your ring on its charger for more than a week.

Use Proper Power Source

The USB charging power cord is intended to be supplied by an external 5Vdc supply that complies with EN 62368-1 standard.

Connectivity & Updates

Only Connect Your Ring to One Device at a Time

The intended use and setup of an Oura Ring should consist of the following: one ring, one account, one device. If there are multiple users or data sources feeding into the same account, this leads to missing data, connectivity issues, or even accelerated battery consumption.

Update Your Oura App Software & Ring Firmware When Possible

You’ll be notified on your Home tab in the Oura App when a new version of our software and firmware is released. We recommend updating to the most recent versions to ensure optimal ring and app performance, as well as an ideal member experience.
